Best of the West - Baobabs and Tsingy

From Antananarivo to Antananarivo

Tour Overview

Journey into the wild landscapes of western Madagascar, combining the wildlife-rich forests of Kirindy with the extraordinary Tsingy de Bemaraha and the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs.

Begin in Morondava, a laid-back coastal town and gateway to western Madagascar, before travelling to Kirindy Reserve. Explore its dry deciduous forest on guided walks in search of lemurs, reptiles, birdlife and the elusive fossa, Madagascar’s largest native predator.

Continue by 4WD to remote Bekopaka and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. Explore an extraordinary landscape of towering limestone pinnacles, hidden canyons and pockets of forest, keeping watch for endemic wildlife along the way.

Another highlight is the famous Avenue of the Baobabs, where enormous baobab trees line the landscape outside Morondava. Visit around sunset, when the changing light creates one of Madagascar’s most memorable scenes.

Combining unique wildlife, dramatic landscapes and a real sense of adventure, this journey showcases the wild beauty of western Madagascar.

This is an adventurous journey involving long drives on rough roads and a physically demanding hike through the Grand Tsingy. It is best suited to active travellers who are comfortable with heights, ladders, narrow passages and uneven terrain. The tour operates seasonally, generally from June to October, when road and park conditions allow.

Viva's Best Bits...
