Highland Markets and Cloud Forests of Ecuador

This morning, you will depart from Quito with your tour guide, heading towards Otavalo, a town renowned for its weekly artisan market. Along the journey on the Pan-American Highway, we'll make a stop in Guayllabamba town, where you can savor its signature fruit, the cherimoya. Our next destination will be a Rose Plantation in the quaint town of Tabacundo, known for producing exquisite, fragrant roses catering to the most discerning clientele. Continuing our journey, we'll pause on the highway to take in the breathtaking landscape and the majestic snow-capped mountains in the area. Following that, a brief stop at San Pablo Lake will provide another opportunity to soak in the natural beauty before reaching Otavalo.

Once in Otavalo, we'll explore the textile market situated in the "Plaza of Ponchos," renowned as one of the most celebrated markets in South America. Here, you'll discover an array of handicrafts, including tapestries crafted on Spanish weaving looms and indigenous backstrap looms. Following this, you'll have some leisure time to engage in friendly bargaining and purchasing with the Otavaleños. In the early afternoon, we will visit a colonial hacienda where lunch is optional before going to the small artisan village of Cotacachi.

After breakfast, and before heading to Mindo, you will stop at "Quitsato," an intriguing site in the city. It features a large Sun clock spanning 52 meters in diameter, crafted from a mosaic of large stones. This unique clock indicates the various lines of the solstices and equinoxes, as well as the hours of the day. These time markers are illuminated by the shadow cast by a towering 10-meter-high pole positioned exactly at the center of this expansive circular platform. It's an excellent spot for you to take memorable photographs alongside this remarkable solar timepiece. The activities centered around "Latitude 0" here make this visit truly worthwhile.

Following this visit, you will be transferred to your hotel in Mindo for your check-in and relaxation in the evening.
