Tour Description

Sail to the southern parts of the Antarctic Peninsula, Peter I Island, the Bellingshausen and Amundsen Seas into the Ross Sea. Visiting the Ross Ice-shelf, Dry Valleys, McMurdo Station, Macquarie Island, Campbell Island and the historic huts of Scott and Shackleton.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Ushuaia

Embarkation in Ushuaia and sail through the Beagle Channel.

Day 2
At sea

In the Westerlies the ship is followed by several species of albatrosses, storm petrels, shearwaters and diving petrels.

Day 3-4
Falkland Islands

View magellanic, gentoo, king & rockhopper penguins, and experience close encounters with water fowl, night herons and passerines. In Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, we will experience Falkland culture and learn of its turbulent history.

Day 5-6
At sea

Travel to South Georgia observing several species of albatross, shearwater, petrel, prion and skua.

Day 7-10
South Georgia

This island is abundant in wildlife with elephant seals, fur seals, king and macaroni penguins and introduced reindeer. Visit Prion Island, where we will witness the breeding efforts of the huge wandering albatross and enjoy watching their displays. At Fortuna Bay follow in the footsteps of the great British Explorer, Ernest Shackleton, and hike over to Stomness Bay to see an abandoned whaling village. This is a truly unique village, where king penguins now roam the streets and seals have taken over the buildings.

Day 11
At sea

Spend the day on the water, where the ship will be followed once more by a multitude of seabirds.

Day 12
South Orkney Islands

Visit Orcadas Station, an Argentinean base, and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding glaciers.

Day 13
At sea

Cruising en route to the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 14-16
Antarctic Peninsula

We sail into the Weddell Sea through the ice-clogged Antarctic Sound. Visit to Brown Bluff where we may set foot on the continent and Charlotte Bay, which is often filled with icebergs. Seals can be seen on floes as well as kelp gulls, skuas, shags and penguins. Admire the rugged ice coated mountains of the Arctowski Pensinsula. At Deception Island we find hot springs, an abandoned whaling station, thousands of cape pigeons and many kelp gulls, brown and south polar skuas and Antarctic terns, wilson’s storm petrels and black-bellied storm petrels.

Day 17-18
At sea

Cross the Drake Passage en route to Ushuaia.

Day 19
Ushuaia

Disembarkation this morning.
