Svalbard Explorer: Best of High Arctic Norway
Tour Description
Explore the wildlife and landscapes of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago; home of the polar bear, walrus, and very few people on this 10 day expedition. This remote Arctic destination is home to an extraordinary array of wildlife, including polar bears, reindeer, and an impressive variety of seabirds. With only a few thousand inhabitants, the region remains pristine, offering an unmatched opportunity to experience nature at its rawest.
Your adventure begins in Longyearbyen, the northernmost settlement of its size in the world. This picturesque town, where brightly colored houses dot the landscape, is nestled amidst dramatic Arctic hills. As you cruise along the coastline, marvel at the spectacular sight of glaciers, towering mountains of rock, snow, and ice glide past, their beauty as stark as it is captivating.
Take to the zodiac boats for an up-close look at some of the most remote and awe-inspiring locations on the island. One highlight is the towering cliffs of Alkefjellet, where thousands of Brünnich’s guillemots nest in impressive colonies. The cliffs themselves rise dramatically out of the sea, a stark reminder of the Arctic’s immense and untamed power.
For the adventurous, there’s the chance to take a polar plunge into the icy waters—an exhilarating experience for the daring! Alternatively, try kayaking through the crystal-clear waters of the fjords, offering a unique perspective of this remote world. And, of course, the highlight for many is the chance to spot the majestic polar bear. Keep a watchful eye as you explore this wild and untamed region; these apex predators roam freely across the island, embodying the spirit of the Arctic.
This expedition offers more than just a journey—it’s an immersion into the heart of the polar wilderness so join us and explore the land of the polar bear.
