Starting on the rim of the breathtaking Empakaai Crater, you'll hike through rolling highlands, remote Maasai villages, and across the dramatic escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, camping beneath star-filled African skies along the way. Your adventure concludes with two nights at beautiful Lake Natron, where towering cliffs, natural swimming pools and the sacred volcano of Ol Doinyo Lengai create an unforgettable backdrop. Day 1
Arusha Empakaai Crater

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha, or after your safari from your lodge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Journey into the spectacular Ngorongoro Highlands to the rim of Empakaai Crater, where, if time allows, you'll descend to the crater floor on a rewarding hike. Surrounded by towering volcanic walls, the tranquil soda lake is often home to flocks of flamingos, creating an unforgettable first taste of Tanzania's dramatic landscapes.

Later, arrive at Empakaai Camp, perched on the crater rim with sweeping views across the surrounding highlands. Your home for the night is a spacious dome tent, furnished with comfortable camp beds, thick mattresses and cosy bedding. Camp facilities include hot showers and toilets, providing a welcome chance to freshen up before enjoying a delicious dinner as the sun sets over the highlands.

Day 2
Trek Through Maasai Country Leonotis Camp

Wake to spectacular views across the Ngorongoro Highlands before setting off on foot with your Maasai guides. As your camp is transported ahead by donkeys, you'll follow ancient walking trails through rolling hills, open grasslands and traditional Maasai villages, gaining a fascinating insight into local life and culture along the way. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness before continuing your trek to Leonotis Camp, nestled among acacia trees in a peaceful bush setting.

Wake to spectacular views across the Ngorongoro Highlands before setting off on foot with your Maasai guides. As your camp is transported ahead by donkeys, you'll follow ancient walking trails through rolling hills, open grasslands and traditional Maasai villages, gaining a fascinating insight into local life and culture along the way. After a rewarding day's walk, settle into your dome tent, offering the same comfortable camping set-up as the previous night. Later, take an optional afternoon walk to a nearby viewpoint to soak up panoramic views across the Great Rift Valley with a well-earned sundowner. As evening falls, gather around the campfire beneath a blanket of stars, where your Maasai guides often share stories of their traditions, history and enduring connection to this remarkable landscape.

Day 3
Descend the Great Rift Valley Lake Natron Camp

Today's trek offers a choice of routes, from a gentler descent to a more challenging hike along the dramatic escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Throughout the journey you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Tanzania's only active volcano and the sacred mountain of the Maasai. At the base of the escarpment, you'll transfer by vehicle to Lake Natron Camp, an intimate luxury tented camp set on the edge of the lake. Surrounded by dramatic landscapes, the camp is within walking distance of both the famous ancient hominid footprints and the shores of Lake Natron, where more than one million lesser flamingos gather to breed during the season.

After three unforgettable days on the trail, settle into your spacious Meru-style tent before cooling off with a refreshing swim in the camp's natural spring-fed pools. As the sun sets, enjoy a well-earned sundowner and dinner beneath a sky filled with stars.

Day 4
Discover the Wonders of Lake Natron

Today is yours to enjoy the remarkable landscapes surrounding Lake Natron. Choose to relax beside the natural pools or set out on one of the camp's many guided adventures. Hike through the spectacular Ngare Sero Gorge to hidden waterfalls, walk along the lakeshore to observe thousands of flamingos, discover ancient hominid footprints, or simply unwind with another memorable sundowner beneath the towering presence of Ol Doinyo Lengai.

Day 5
Farewell Lake Natron

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking advantage of any final optional activities around Lake Natron. Whether it's one last walk, a refreshing swim or simply soaking up the incredible scenery, this is the perfect way to end your Great Rift Valley adventure before transferring to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.
