Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Pucon

You will arrive at the centre of Chile’s Lake District in the town of Pucon.

Somewhat of an adventure hub, Pucon is situated on the shores of Lago Villarrica and sits beneath the shadow of the active volcano that shares the lake’s name.

The town will be your base to see Villarrica volcano at a distance and to access some popular hiking trails and hot springs nearby.

There is a plethora of additional activities not included in this tour also available to enjoy during a stay in Pucon. These activities range from scaling Villarrica to its peak, skiing and snowboarding (seasonal and weather dependent) to white water rafting, kayaking, sailing and fishing. There’s so much to do in this small town.

After you arrive, perhaps head to Playa Grande and see the black volcanic sands that make up the town’s main beach. There are also steamboats which offer cruising on the lake from the main jetty.

Back in town, head to Pucon’s Plaza de Armas. The square has a whimsical feel and is often entertained by street performers. The plaza is also home to some wooden sculptures of the Mapuche, Patagonia’s Indigenous inhabitants.

Day 2
Parque Nacional Huerquehue

After breakfast you will travel to Parque Nacional Huerquehue.

This national park stretches 27,500 acres and is home to a number of hiking trails that wind between ancient Araucaria trees (known more affectionately as monkey puzzle trees) and towards lakes, lagoons and waterfalls.

You will take a five hour trek on one of these trails to Salto Trifulco and Nido de Aguilas, two waterfalls with fantastic vantage points. As you hike, keep your eye out for woodpeckers, which are often found looking for food in the trees.

Enjoy a boxed picnic lunch before finishing the trek and returning to Pucon.

Day 3
Parque Ojos del Caburgua

Today you will join a small group tour to Parque Ojos del Caburgua.

Enroute you will stop at two lookout points, the Mirador Quelhue and the Mirador de Peces. At Mirador Quelhue you will enjoy some of the best views of the Villarrica volcano. Mirador de Peces is located at a fish farm where you can see rainbow trout in the Liucura River and the area is surrounded by native flora.

Parque Ojos del Caburgua a popular nature reserve named after the beautiful waterfalls that flow into Laguna Azul.

Ojos del Caburgua means the ‘eyes of Caburgua’ and the waterfalls were given this title because when viewed from above the fifteen to twenty metre high waterfalls appear to be a pair of eyes, one blue and one green.

There’s time to enjoy a swim and a boxed picnic lunch before heading to Lago Caburgua. This lake is situated in a glacial valley overlooked by Villarrica volcano and features two beaches.

Your final stop for the day is the Huife Thermal Baths. Located at a resort, these hot springs provide the chance to relax and enjoy the outdoor pools or to take advantage of a number of natural therapies such as reiki, therapeutic massage, reflexology and hydromassage before you return to your hotel.
