Village and School Visit

Imvelo Safari Lodges is deeply committed to fostering connections between local rural communities and our safari guests, ensuring mutual benefit. A short drive from the lodge, guests have the opportunity to experience authentic village life in rural Matabeleland.

Start your morning with breakfast in the dining room before heading to Ngunyana Village. Here, guests can join children on their morning walk to school or take younger kids for a ride in our safari vehicles! At the school, meet the Headmaster and enjoy traditional songs performed by students, followed by a brief classroom interaction. This activity provides a wonderful opportunity for school children to engage with visitors from around the world who come to see the wildlife that surrounds them.

After the school visit, visit a nearby village for an unscripted tour of a local homestead, including a meeting with the village headman. Guests will witness Imvelo's community initiatives firsthand and gain insight into the daily life of rural Zimbabweans, including thatching roofs, tilling fields, milling maize, and weaving baskets.

Imvelo's "Look-up Blind" at Stoffie's Pan

This afternoon, return to Hwange in search of wildlife before enjoying a bush lunch next to our underground game-viewing blind at Stoffie’s Pan, also known as the "Look-up" blind because it offers water-level views where elephants can be seen from above! After lunch, spend time in the blind for close-up views of elephants quenching their thirst just a few feet away. The blind features comfortable seating and amenities such as running water for flush toilets and hand basins.

Later in the afternoon, explore the Ngamo plains by foot and vehicle. Enjoy sundowners before embarking on a night drive back to camp through the Bomani concession, seeking out nocturnal species that roam the plains after dark.

Day 6
Hwange Game Viewing

Morning Game Drive or Walk from Bomani

Start your day with an early wake-up call and join your guide at dawn for a cup of coffee and a slice of toast before venturing out to interpret the night's activities in the wilderness. We set out early to catch the big cats while they are still active. While sightings can't be guaranteed, an engaging time with your guide is assured. Guided walks are led by experienced professionals, focusing on tracks and signs, and possibly approaching wildlife on foot for memorable photographs. Return to the lodge with a heightened appetite for brunch. At Imvelo, our game viewing is adaptable to seize on-ground opportunities, such as recent lion activity – your guide will discuss options and suggest variations, like departing after a full breakfast or enjoying a picnic brunch in a favored bush spot, where wildlife can observe you for a change!

General Game Viewing Activities

Continue exploring the Ngamo Plains. Your guide will outline available options and recommend activities based on your preferences – from game drives and walks to full-day excursions, birdwatching, and waterhole observations – all subject to updates from the bush telegraph about recent happenings among the prominent wildlife, particularly the large predators!

Additional Options

Imvelo's Signature "Pump Run" All-Day Safari

Start your day with early tea or coffee on your veranda, followed by a hearty breakfast in the main lodge. Pack your day bag for an extensive safari or "pump run" deep into the southern part of Hwange.

Hwange National Park, lacking major rivers, relies on waterholes pumped for over 70 years – initially by windmills, then diesel engines, and now solar power. Imvelo Safari Lodges manages 16+ waterholes in the park's southern sector, contributing to 20-25% of the waterholes sustaining Hwange's wildlife – a significant commitment of which we are immensely proud!

Imvelo’s "pump runs" blend remote park game viewing with practical conservation efforts to maintain crucial waterholes and pumps that wildlife depend on during dry seasons. Many pumps have recently transitioned to solar-hybrid systems. Meet the "pump attendants," conservation heroes who reside at these waterholes and assist with pump maintenance.

Enjoy a picnic lunch near a waterhole, followed by a leisurely afternoon game drive back to the lodge, often culminating in sundowners at a nearby waterhole.

Please note: This activity operates during the dry season when water is pumped (typically June to October). During the green season, enjoy an all-day game drive spanning a vast park area, with a picnic lunch and siesta under a shady tree near a lily-covered pan.

Overnight Bomani Tented Camp in a Saddlebill or Spurwing Luxury Tent including all meals, selected drinks, laundry and game activities.

Day 7
Fly to Victoria Falls for departure

Following an early morning activity and brunch at the lodge, transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Victoria Falls.

On arrival at Victoria Falls Airport, connect with your onward international flight, bringing your Zimbabwe adventure to an end.
