There is a new colony of King Penguins establishing at Tierra del Fuego, the only King Penguin Colony to be found outside the Sub-Antarctic islands.
King Penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) are usually only found on the sub-antarctic islands, such as remote and difficult to access South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. Observing them in Tierra del Fuego, therefore, is a very unique opportunity!

Local elders in the region talk of a time long ago when there was a King Penguin Colony in Tierra Del Fuego and today, right at the same spot, a group of about 45 king penguins seem to be reestablishing themselves.
As soon as we heard about this colony we had to get and see for ourselves - and they they were, just as we head heard. Now we include a visit to the colony on all of our Wild Patagonia & Southern Explorer small group expeditions. The Penguins are there all year round so you have the chance to witness them in the natural habitat on any tour throughout the season.
The colony is not so easy to access as it is in a remote area of Tierra Del Fuego, off road, in a place names Useless Bay. Luckily our expedition vehicles are perfectly suited to make the trip.
