TRAVEL INDUSTRY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Auckland based

Viva Expeditions is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Sales Manager to help us expand our premium adventure travel business, offering meaningful and immersive journeys throughout Latin America, Africa, Antarctica, the Arctic & New Zealand.  This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team and make a real impact in the travel industry. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience within the travel industry, excellent contacts with retail travel agencies, and exceptional people skills.

This role will be based out of our HQ in Albany, Auckland, with domestic travel around New Zealand required.

Purpose:

  •  Drive the growth and profitability of the organization by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities.

  • This role is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with trade partners, while also strategically expanding the company's market presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to drive revenue growth and market share in the travel industry.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by conducting market research and analysing industry trends.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing partners and identify opportunities to enhance those relationships, including monthly reporting and check ins with major partners and quarterly visits to their respective HQs.

  • Provide regular training in person or online with existing and new partners, and prospective clients.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales, and operations teams to execute on business development initiatives.

  • Manage and coordinate events and expos.

  • Negotiate and close partnerships and contracts that support business growth and revenue targets.

  • Represent the company at industry and consumer events and conferences to promote brand awareness and build new relationships.

  • Develop and manage budgets for business development initiatives and ensure that expenses are within budget constraints.

  • Provide regular reports on business development activities and outcomes to senior management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing in the travel industry.

  • A proven sales track record.

  • Excellent contacts with retail travel agencies and/or travel experience & destination knowledge of South America / Africa / Polar destinations. 

  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and expanding market share in the travel industry.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.

  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.

  • Ability to manage budgets and targets & to analyse data effectively.

  • Strong sense of humour, able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Strong under pressure and used to tight deadlines.

  • Creativity and ability to think outside the box 

  • Excellent IT skills demonstrating confidence in office packages, in particular PowerPoint and Canva.

  • New Zealand citizenship or a visa that allows full-time employment within New Zealand.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
