Refugio Amazonas offers a cosy oasis deep in the vast jungle, set in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. Approximately two hours by road and boat from Puerto Maldonado, Peru, this 32-bedroom lodge offers a huge variety of adventures with a focus on conservation and science, a perfect retreat for travellers of all ages.
Hike the jungle trails looking for tapir, agouti, toucan, harpy eagle and more, cruise the waters of Oxbow Lake in search of rare giant otters, huge caiman, or spot hoatzin and monkeys in the trees. Visit macaw clay licks to witness the spectacle of tiny parakeets, colorful parrots, and brilliant macaws feed. Learn about the medicinal plants of the Amazon, visit a working jungle farm, climb the canopy tower for views of jungle as far as the eye can see. Perhaps take a sunset cruise or night walk keeping a keen eye out for night monkeys, poison dart frogs, and tarantula!
