When I was 11, my parents moved our family from the UK to Spain – and that’s where the travel bug really bit. Being thrown into a new culture, language, food and way of life opened my eyes to the world and sparked a curiosity that’s never really faded. At 17, I set off on my first solo trip to the USA for four weeks, then came home and saved every penny I could to fund my OE in Australia. I promised I’d only be gone for three months… 18 years later, I’m still living in this part of the world – and proud to now call New Zealand home.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel to six of the seven continents, with some unforgettable experiences along the way – hiking to Machu Picchu, taking the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing, swimming in the Amazon, spotting the Big 5 in Kruger, and watching the Northern Lights in Iceland. I’ve danced through Carnival in Rio, taken a hot air balloon over the Masai Mara, sat in the Devil’s Pool at the edge of Victoria Falls, hiked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, and explored both sides of the spectacular Iguazu Falls.

What's next? Antarctica is still on the list – my final continent! I’m also dreaming of exploring Namibia’s Skeleton Coast and meeting the unique wildlife of the Galapagos.

My top travel tip:
Immerse yourself. Eat the local food, chat to the locals, take the detour. The best memories are often made when you wander off the beaten track and try something new.
