Cultural immersion, lodge-to-lodge journeying, exploration of breathtaking landscapes…

Mountain Lodges of Peru offers a unique take on adventure travel to Machu Picchu. Cultural immersion, lodge-to-lodge journeying, exploration of breathtaking landscapes…all resulting in a transformation of mind, body and spirit. Below we will show you two amazing experiences - the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu and the Lares Valley Adventure to Machu Picchu.

THE SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU

Follow the road less traveled to Machu Picchu on this signature trek...where each day offers a new challenge, each vista is even better than the last, and each moment promises a transformative experience like no other. Along the Salkantay trail, you will journey through varied terrain both challenging and awe-inspiring. Up-close views of glacier mountain peaks, mysterious fog surrounding fields of boulders, and cattle drives through the most remote of mountain areas are sights that will only enhance the spectacular topography, lush vegetation, and intriguing archaeological areas that you will encounter. Locals, still proudly attached to their Andean heritage, will greet you along the way and give you a glimpse into their rarely seen world.  Led by well-respected and extremely knowledgeable guides, you are guaranteed personal attention and a commitment to safety. The staff at the mountain-luxury lodges, situated in pristine locations along the trail, will welcome you warmly at the end of each day with the utmost in service and amenities.

THE LARES ADVENTURE TO MACHU PICCHU

Lares Valley Adventure Machu PIcchu

The newest journey to Machu Picchu combines adventure with cultural exploration. Study the rich cultural tapestry of the Sacred Valley of the Incas while marveling at its magnificent natural beauty.  The Lares Adventure to Machu Picchu offers the perfect combination of traditional adventure travel and cultural immersion. Your experience on our, 5 or 7 day, lodge-to-lodge journey will alternate between an exploration of the astounding natural scenery of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and an intimate look at Andean culture, both in busy towns and in the most remote of mountain hamlets.

RACHELS SUMMARY
Lares Valley Trek Machu PicchuI have done both the Lares Valley & the Salkantay Treks and have also hiked the Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu three times so thought Id share a very brief summary for you:
The Salkantay Trek - If spectacular Mountain scenery is your thing then the Salkantay trek is for you.  In my opinion the scenery on this trek is the most breath-taking.
The Lares Valley  - While also offering spectacular scenery a huge highlight of this experience is the interaction with traditional local communities and the flexibility to choose from an a-la-carte excursion menu each day. So caters for trekkers and non-trekkers.
The Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu - This is also a great trek and features many Inca ruins along the trail.  The downside is that it is often crowded and facilities are limited.  Accommodation is camping, there are no lodge options on this trail.

Of course if you would like more detailed info I am happy to help.
