Voyager "Akademik Sergey Vavilov"

Voyager "Akademik Sergey Vavilov"

Akademik Sergey Vavilov and Akademik Ioffe are sister ships built in 1989 and 1988 respectively. They were designed for polar research and are now the only scientific vessels still participating in marine studies. With extensive upgrades and expansions, these ships are not only safe and ice strengthened, they are comfortable, modern and very spacious. Both ships carry less than 100 passengers. They traverse open water crossings with ease due to their speed and integrated internal ballast system, resulting in a great reduction from severe rolling in heavy seas. As such, they are the most stable vessels travelling to Antarctica.

The spacious outer decks provide 360 degree views of the beautiful landscapes. Inside they have comfortable presentation rooms for lectures and a multimedia room equipped with iMac computers for downloading photos. The open bridge policy means that at virtually any time of the day you are welcome to meet the navigating crew. Both ships offer a variety of cabin configurations, comfortable lounge areas, a spacious dining room, a library, hot water Jacuzzi, plunge pool, a sauna, fitness room and day spa with massage therapist. With your safety in mind each ship has a small but well equipped medical clinic with an experienced wilderness doctor accompanying every voyage. The Akademik Ioffe represents the ideal marine wilderness lodge and a perfect platform to explore Antarctica.
