Experience the stunning Hokianga Harbour area of the Far North.

Take a few days to explore this remote area of Northland, rich in early Maori and European history. This is the area that Kupe and the first Maori explorers arrived to, and towns around the harbour like Rawene and Kohukohu, are some of the earliest settled towns in New Zealand.

Explore the dramatic harbour, witness the sunlight play on the stunning sand dunes, and take a special twilight tour of the native forest. Witness Tāne Mahuta, our largest Kauri tree, standing proud in Waipoua Forest,  be enchanted by Te Matua Ngāhere -The Father of the Forest; who, at over 3,000 years is the oldest Kauri. Listen to legends of the forest, as day becomes night, this is a truly magical Far North experience.

Day 1
Omapere, Hokianga Harbour

Arrive at Omapere in the stunning Hokianga Harbour region at your leisure, check into your hotel located on the waterfront.

Relax and take a stroll along the harbour.

The Hokianga Harbour is a special place, not only is it a a beautiful natural harbour with 150 high sand dunes on the north entrance, the area is also rich in early Maori and European history. Take your time to soak up the beauty of this remote region.

Day 2
Waipoua Forest

Your day is at leisure, to explore the surrounds, perhaps add a Marae experience or get adventurous and go sand boarding on the harbours iconic sand dunes!

This evening enjoy a twilight encounter tour of Waipoua Forest.
You will be picked up from your hotel for a 4 hour tour.
Experience the affinity that Māori have with the forest and the deep spiritual respect they have for these sentinels who have stood silently witnessing the passing of time. Your guide will share thought-provoking information, humorous banter, stories and legends before respectfully greeting the oldest and largest known kauri trees in the world with spine-tingling chants and song.

Be Mesmerised by Te Matua Ngāhere -The Father of the Forest; who at 3,000 years is the oldest giant.

Be Enchanted by the largest giant, Tane Mahuta, a national icon.

Witness the day transition to night and by default feel your senses become hauntingly enhanced. Just like these giant kauri trees the memories you seize are timeless treasures.

You will be dropped back off at your hotel this evening.
