A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, Copán was one of the ancient Mayas' most lavish cultural centres. It's a detailed work of art and is particularly well-known for its beautifully carved stelae. For the best experience, tour Copán with an experienced guide who can bring the ruins to life. The site is located just 60 km east of the Guatemalan border and sits in a pristine river valley near the town of Copán Ruinas.
