Day 1
Belize City Cayo District

Upon arrival to Belize International Airport you will be picked up and transferred to the Cayo District. This is located in the western section of the country and bordering Guatemala's department of El Peten. The Cayo District is a vast highland stretch of rainforests, ranches, and some of the country's most remote and rugged terrain. It's a region you head to not for beaches (there are none), but rather for Maya ruins, an extensive cave complex, and a chance to explore the great outdoors on foot, by horse, or in a kayak, raft, or canoe. The country's capital, Belmopan, is located here, but the real hub of the district is San Ignacio, a small town with colonial-era streets and a funky medley of restaurants and shops. Some of Cayo's not-to-miss attractions include the Mountain Pine Ridge forest reserve, the Barton Creek cave, and the ancient Maya city of Caracol.

Day 2
Cayo District

Today you can choose one of the offered tours either to Caracol & the Rio Frio cave & pools or Xunantunich & the botanical gardens.
On the Caracol & Rio Frio cave &pools tour you will be met at your hotel and transferred into an area of sub-tropical rainforest in the Maya village of San Antonio. Here you'll have an opportunity to see the Mestizo culture which is a mix of Mayan and Spanish people. Visit Caracol, the largest archaeological site in Belize, covering 30 square miles of thick, high canopy jungle. You will enjoy a private guided tour of the site with entrances and picnic lunch included. On you way back to hotel, stop and explore the Rio Frio pools and caves.
On the Xunantunich & botanical gardens tour you will be transferred to the Mopan river, from where you can enter the Xunantunich Maya archaeological site. You will have a guided tour of this small, picturesque & fascinating site followed by a transfer to the rainforest to enjoy lunch, before beginning a guided exploration of the Belize botanical gardens.

Day 3
Cayo District

Today you can choose a tour to either Actun Tunichil Maknal or Barton Creek & butterfly farm.
Actun Tunichil Maknal (cave of the stone sepulchre) is one of the most impressive caves in the Maya lowland. Located in the heart of the Belizean rainforest, this cave was a sacred place to the pre-Hispanic Mayas of Belize. Visitors to this cave have the opportunity to travel into the Maya past and witness a living museum where human sacrifices and artifacts can be viewed in their original context.
On the Barton Creek & butterfly farm tour you start with a guided tour of beautiful butterfly sanctuary and learn about them in the Cayo region. The Barton Creek cave tour is low intensity adventure trip equipped with canoes and high powered lights to gently paddle along the river into the underworld cave system. Knowledgeable guides discuss the relevance of the caves to the ancient Mayan people and the archaeological significance of this 7.5km limestone cave system.
