Solar eclipse cruise in Antarctica onboard Hondius
Your Antarctica solar eclipse tour begins in Ushuaia, Argentina. Over the next couple of days, you will cruise the Drake Passage with potential sightings of fin whales. The ship will be also followed by many different species of albatross.
This is an extended voyage which will give you the chance to sail further than most down the icy coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Entering the Gerlache Straight there will be several opportunities to land and set foot on the Antarctic Continent. There are epic landscapes in this region, with floating glaciers and lots of wildlife including penguins, leopard seals and humpback whales. We will also cruise to South Shetlands and Deception Island where you can find abandoned whaling stations and hot springs.
Depending on the weather, your Antarctica solar eclipse cruise will enter the Weddell Sea where you will pass more colossal icebergs and arrive at the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula. The ship will head deep into the pack ice to find the best possible viewing spot for the solar eclipse and right in the centre of the moon's shadow.
After the Eclipse, your Antarctica solar eclipse cruise will head north to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
