Celebrating Shackleton: Antarctica -South Georgia
We honour one of Antarctica's heroes, Sir Ernest Shackleton, on this special new expedition: Celebrating Shackleton: Journey from Antarctica to South Georgia. One hundred years ago, when Shackleton and his crew explored Antarctica onboard the Endurance, conditions were basic and harsh. Today we follow Shackleton onboard the brand new vessel, Ultramarine, equipped with comfortable cabins, restaurant, two twin-engine helicopters and 20 fast-launching Zodiacs.
This voyage will not only coincide with the centenary of Shackleton’s death, it will follow the route of Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–1917), witnessing the wonders of the Antarctic Peninsula, the Weddell Sea, Elephant Island and the wildlife-rich South Georgia. Make landings and walk in remote Antarctic, visit penguin colonies, cruise past icebergs in zodiacs, while learning with special presentations by polar experts Tim Jarvis, author of “Chasing Shackleton”) and Dr. Ross Macphee, curator of the ground-breaking museum exhibit “The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition.”
