A trip to the Galapagos

A year and a half ago I visited the Galapagos Islands for the second time.  I led a group of nine avid travellers on an 8-day Galapagos Islands cruise onboard the beautiful vessel La Pinta. During this time I posted a day by day photographic diary of our trip which I would like to share with you today. As you will see, the Galapagos Islands is a very special part of the world and the opportunity to interact with unique wildlife is like no where else on the planet.

Day 1.  Baltra Island & North Seymour Island

We arrived today and straight away we were introduced to the abundance of wildlife in the Galapagos Islands.

Day 2.  Punta Vicente Roca (Isabela Island)

Another great day in the Galapagos Islands. We swam with sealions & sea turtles and saw whales. There is no other place on earth where wildlife lives in such balance and harmony than the Galapagos Islands. Truly incredible!

Day 3. Urbina Bay (Isabela Island) & Tagus Cove (Isabela Island)

Isabela Island is awesome, so remote and unspoiled. We walked with giant tortoises in their natural environment, saw land iguanas fighting and swam with turtles and sea-lions. It was incredible!

We are amazed by this beautiful view

Day 4. Rabida Island  & Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill) (Santa Cruz Island)

Another wonderful day, the highlight for me was snorkelling at Rabida Island. We saw so many tropical fish and they didn't move at all when you swam along side them! We also saw sharks and did an amazing swim with sea-lions. I also saw a massive Manta Ray while walking along the coast - it must have had a wing span of about 3m - WOW!

Going on a cruise in the Galapagos is an unforgettable trip

Day 5. Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island) & the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island

Today we explored the Island of Santa Cruz. We went to the Charles Darwin Research Centre and also went to make friends with Giant Tortoises that roam free in the highlands of the Island. Another amazing day!

Did you know that a giant tortoise can live for more 150 years?

Day 6. Post Office Bay (Floreana Island) & Champion Islet & Punta Cormorant (Floreana Island)

Today we visited Post Office Bay and posted our postcards in the hope that they were collected by other travellers and delivered to our intended recipients. Then, we spent some time playing with cheeky sealions, kayaking and watching sting-rays swim in the bay.

Sealions are very friendly

Day 7. Santa Fe Island & South Plaza Island

Our last full day on the islands was another special an memorable day. We swam with big sea turtles which was awesome, and had some great walks on Santa Fe & South Plaza Islands.

As you can see, the wildlife in the Galapagos is rich and diverse
